Life Span Of Eco Plastics Roof Sheets

This product is stabilized with a Hindered Amine Light Stabilizer (HALS), such as TINUVIN 622LD OR CHIMASORB. According to the test on 3.1mm Plaques, a level of 0.1% HALS will give up to 600 Kilolangleys (KLY) UV stability. As the UV radiation in South Africa is between 160 and 180 KLY, this equates to a maximum of 9.3 to 14.3 years of life span. However, as level of hall, ECO roof sheets are higher than 0.1%. We therefore expect much higher UV stability and predict a useful life span of 20-25 years on this product.

The following formula was used to calculate flexural modulus in Mpa:

Flexural Modulus (Mpa) = (31250 x slope) / (thickness)3 x width

NB.31250 = (support span)3 / 4

UV Transmission

The UV transmittance was measured from 700mm (which is still visible sight) to 250mm. The UVC range is from 390nm downward.

The transmittance at 700nm was 33%, which dropped to 26% at 390nm. The UV transmittance dropped rapidly after 390nm to 1.2% transmittance at 250nm.

Impact Strength

The impact strength was determined to ASTM method D1822. The samples were cut according to type specifications. The impact strength was found to be 1.3 Joule.
